On an ordinary day Lucky Aaroni (pictured) is a lanky looking chap you might not award a second glance after the first one but we sat down with him because we know he has a lot going on in his life.
He is the producer and co-founder of Bustop TV, one of Zimbabwe’s biggest satire shows distributed on facebook youtube and whatsapp mostly.
Bustop TV produces hilarious skits that are watched by thousands of people online, humorous as they may be they are often pregnant with social commentary of trending issues in our society. Aaroni says in these trying times comical relief is what carries most of his fellow countrymen to the next day.
His work revolves around creativity and operates from Moto Republik, Zimbabwe’s first creative hub. A perfect place to be based if you ask me, the place is always crawling with creatives and one cannot help but awaken their inner creative side.
Aaroni is a filmmaker by profession and he says Zimbabwe’s arts sector always has limitations which often need one to be innovative in their approach to sail through. His everyday hustle is to scout for locations, help out with concepts for skits and sometimes meet the clients.
Some of the high profile projects he has worked on outside Bustop productions are Zambezi News, The Week, official videographer at Zimbabwe’s annual urban festival, Shoko Festival 2016.
He is thrilled about the year 2017 and says from the Bustop TV side they will be looking to expand their audience and work on new productions.
“Speaking of expansion we (Bustop TV) have roped in new comic characters Madam Boss and Mai TT to beef up Gonyeti and Magi’s roles on a new comic series called Drama Queens which is part of our follow through in our belief in collaborations. On my end I guess I might just get married” he says with a glee on his face complemented by a laugh.
Then adds, “This year I intend on working on talk shows, tv programs and possibly a movie from Bustop TV.”
He currently sits on multiple awards in his personal capacity and some of them as Bustop TV these include Zimbabwe International Women’s Awards (ZIWA) People’s Choice 2016, Young Achievers Tech Awards (YATA) Best online content creator 2016, Zimbabwe Youth Achievers Awards (ZYAA) 2016 Best media house nominee 2016, Youth Empowerment and Transformation Trust (YETT) Best video and photojournalist 2015 and Shoko Hub Awards under Best use of Video and Photography for Social Impact.
